Dive Academy Named Ocean Hero – Business of the Year 2018

Ocean Hero Trophy

Dive Academy is delighted to have been named Business of the Year winner in the Clean Coast Ireland, Ocean Hero awards.

As you may know, we have organised beach clean events during 2018 (for more details see https://www.diveacademy.info/en/blog/viewpost/56/beach-clean-event), and we encourage divers who join us on our dive trips to recover any loose debris they come across underwater when it is safe to do so. We do all this because we are passionate about our Atlantic Ocean and feel that everything we can do to help combat the growing problem of ocean & beach debris is effort well spent.

Ocean Hero

We were taken by surprise when we were informed that we had been shortlisted for the Ocean Hero award at the start of November. The notification also came with an invitation to the Clean Coasts “Ocean Talks & Ocean Hero” event in Cork on 23rdNovember ( a sort of Oscar’s event for eco-warriors.

Darek & Ola travelled to the event, expecting nothing more than a good networking opportunity and to hear some interesting talks about the work Clean Coasts undertakes. So, they were taken completely by surprise when the Business of the Year award was announced and Dive Academy declared the 2018 winners. In true Oscar style, Darek mounted the podium to accept the award, while the paparazzi bulbs flashed to capture the moment.

Ocean Hero

We see this award as a recognition of the important work Dive Academy and other businesses, groups and individuals take on to do our small bit to reduce ocean and beach debris. It is also a testament to all our customers, friends and divers who have helped out in our beach cleans or collected debris during our dives – thank you to all of you!

Ocean Hero

This has only strengthened our resolve to continue & build on this work and we are already discussing how we can extend our efforts in this area for our 2019 dive season.
